{"id":2404,"date":"2018-12-31T23:24:27","date_gmt":"2018-12-31T23:24:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wildgoosechasecloggers.org\/wordpress\/?page_id=2404"},"modified":"2019-02-28T15:56:54","modified_gmt":"2019-02-28T15:56:54","slug":"moosejaw-2019","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wildgoosechasecloggers.org\/wordpress\/moosejawmoosejaw-2013\/moosejaw-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"Moosejaw 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We hope you&#8217;ll join us on\u00a0<strong>March 8-10, 2019<\/strong>\u00a0for our annual dance weekend with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thetallboys.com\/The_Tallboys\/Home.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>The Tallboys<\/b><\/a>\u00a0at the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.maplelag.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maplelag Cross-Country Ski Resort<\/a>\u00a0near Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, about 4 hours northwest of the Twin Cities.<\/p>\n<p>The cloggers began hosting the Moosejaw dance and music weekend 30+ years ago to provide an opportunity to take workshops in old-time music, clogging, square and contra dancing, and other traditional dance forms from national and local musicians, teachers, and artists.<a href=\"http:\/\/wildgoosechasecloggers.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/DSC06266.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1969 \" src=\"http:\/\/wildgoosechasecloggers.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/DSC06266-300x180.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"357\" height=\"214\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wildgoosechasecloggers.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/DSC06266-300x180.jpg 300w, https:\/\/wildgoosechasecloggers.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/DSC06266-768x462.jpg 768w, https:\/\/wildgoosechasecloggers.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/DSC06266.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 357px) 100vw, 357px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The weekend features evening dances on Friday and Saturday night, workshops during the day on Saturday and Sunday, and lots of jamming all day long. Other highlights include skiing, hot tubbing, a woodburning sauna, and four\u00a0endless cookie jars.<\/p>\n<p>Homemade Midwestern-style food and lodging at the beautiful Maplelag resort are included in the registration cost. The weekend is open to dancers and musicians of any experience level.<\/p>\n<p><strong>REGISTRATION:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Online registration for Moosejaw 2019 closed on February 27. They\u2019re sound is great for both listening and dancing! The band includes <strong>Charlie Beck<\/strong>, <strong>John Hurd<\/strong>,<strong> Joe Fulton<\/strong>, and <strong>Johnny Fitzpatrick<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"id6\" class=\"style_SkipStroke_2 shape-with-text\">\n<div class=\"text-content graphic_textbox_layout_style_default_External_428_228\">\n<div class=\"graphic_textbox_layout_style_default\">\n<p class=\"paragraph_style_7\"><strong>Charlie<\/strong> was born and raised in Indiana, Charlie moved to Seattle in 2000 where he became a founding member and creative force of The Tallboys.\u00a0 Charlie also performs as a duo with his wife,\u00a0<a title=\"http:\/\/charmaineslaven.com\/Charmaine_Slaven\/Home.html\" href=\"http:\/\/charmaineslaven.com\/Charmaine_Slaven\/Home.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Charmaine Slaven<\/a>, called\u00a0<a title=\"http:\/\/www.squirrelbutter.com\/\" href=\"http:\/\/www.squirrelbutter.com\/\">Squirrel Butter<\/a>. An avid songwriter, Charlie has recorded three albums of his own original and traditional music.\u00a0 He is a dazzling and versatile banjo player, and he is also accomplished on fiddle, guitar, lap &amp; pedal steel.\u00a0 Aside from music performance, he is currently producing and directing his own original screenplay, Squirrel Butter the Movie.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_style_7\"><strong>John<\/strong> is originally from Oregon, \u00a0John has been playing music since age nine.\u00a0 After playing bass in myriad rock, jazz, mathcore, funk, shoegaze, bluegrass, and many other \u00a0bands,\u00a0 he was lucky enough to be present at the formation of The Tallboys, a band that he describes as his most satisfying musical project to date. In his spare time he enjoys singing and playing fiddle and accordion with his wife, Justine, in their duo The Stellar Jays.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_style_4\"><strong>Joe<\/strong> grew up in Iowa and has been playing fiddle since boyhood. A founding member of The Tallboys, Joe\u2019s impressive fiddling is the signature sound of The Tallboys string band.\u00a0 He is a frequent busker at the Pike Place Market.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Johnny<\/strong> is from Richmond, VA, and did not discover old time music until moving to Seattle in 2005.\u00a0 He&#8217;s played banjo in local Seattle bands Nettle Honey and the Porterbelly Stringband, and currently plays in the Dibble Duo with his wife, Brittany.\u00a0 Due to his constantly out of tune banjo, he took up guitar and is honored to be filling in with the Tallboys.\u00a0 If he had to choose, morning tunes with coffee are his favorite.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span id=\"m_5812593322380215487yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1546737440174_10084\">Caller Carol Ormand<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Madison, Wisconsin caller <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carolormand.com\/\">Carol Ormand<\/a> is beloved throughout the square and contra dance community for her smooth and unflappable style, wickedly fun dances, and penchant for keeping all the dancers on the floor smiling.\u00a0Her delightful dance selections and concise, relaxed teaching style will keep you coming back for more.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wildgoosechasecloggers.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Carol-Ormand.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2442\" src=\"http:\/\/wildgoosechasecloggers.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Carol-Ormand.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"221\" height=\"167\" \/><\/a>Carol has been calling since the spring of 1990, and regularly calls at dances, weekends and festivals across the US, and occasionally abroad. She also plays fiddle at a weekly dance in Madison. In addition to squares and contras, Carol enjoys dancing Morris, rapper sword, long sword, English Country, and Scandinavian dances.<\/p>\n<p>In her other life, Carol is a geoscience education researcher working for the Science Education Resource Center at Carleton College. SERC provides online resources and professional development opportunities for college and university science faculty.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cajun Music by Roux Lala Cajun Band<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><b>Roux Lala Cajun Band<\/b>\u00a0holds a passion for Cajun music and dance, full of fun and frolick that we love to share: <strong>Shawn Glidden<\/strong> on accordion, <strong>Betsy Neil<\/strong> and <strong>Marie Stier<\/strong> on fiddles, <strong>Maureen Mullen<\/strong> on guitar, <strong>Doug Lohman<\/strong> holding it all together on bass along with <strong>Ellen Keane<\/strong> on t\u2019fer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shawn<\/strong> is an old time fiddler of several decades and while studying Cajun Fiddle fell into the bellows of an accordion; can\u2019t pry it out of her hands. <strong>Betsy and Marie<\/strong> have backgrounds steeped in violin and\u00a0several\u00a0fiddle genres &#8211; their dynamic twin fiddle playing will bring you to tears. <strong>Maureen and Doug<\/strong> are rhythm masters with deep pockets in the world of Cajun Music. They display such a symbiosis while playing you can\u2019t tell one from the other. <strong>Ellen<\/strong> is a percussionist, tap dance teacher\/performer and historian.
